🌿Centella Asiatica (Cica)Calms & comfortsAM & PM+
Also known as: Tiger grass, cica, madecassoside
What it is
A plant that has been used in traditional Asian skincare for centuries. Its key compounds (madecassoside, asiaticoside and asiatic acid) are what make it a K-beauty star.
What it does
Soothes skin that feels irritated, tight or stressed and helps support the skin barrier, so skin looks calmer and less red.
Why it works
Those plant compounds help calm the look of redness and support the skin's natural repair process. It's very gentle, which is why it shows up in toners, creams and ampoules made for sensitive skin.
Best for
SensitiveRedness-proneBlemish-proneAfter sun or strong actives
Pairs well with

✨NiacinamideOil balance, tone & poresAM & PM+
Also known as: Vitamin B3
What it is
A form of vitamin B3, one of the most researched and easy-going skincare ingredients.
What it does
Helps balance oil, makes pores look smaller, evens out skin tone and fades the look of dark marks left after breakouts.
Why it works
Niacinamide helps regulate how oily skin looks and supports the skin barrier by helping it make its own ceramides. Stronger barrier + less shine is why it's a favourite for blemish-prone and oily skin. It also helps reduce the transfer of pigment in skin, which is why marks and dull spots look more even over time.
Best for
OilyBlemish-proneDull or uneven toneLarge-looking pores
Pairs well with
Almost everything: hyaluronic acid, centella, azelaic acid, retinal, sunscreen.
Good to know
Start around 5–10%. Very high strengths can feel tingly on sensitive skin.

What it does
Calms the look of redness, refreshes skin and helps it feel balanced, not oily and not tight.
Why it works
Heartleaf is rich in plant antioxidants (flavonoids) that help soothe skin that's stressed or easily irritated. Because it's light and watery, it works well for sensitive skin that is also oily or blemish-prone.

What it does
In skincare it's loved for deep hydration and a plump, bouncy, well-rested look.
Why it works
PDRN is known in Korean clinics, and brands have brought it into creams and serums. In cosmetics it works mainly as a hydrating, skin-conditioning ingredient. The research on PDRN in skincare products is still new, so think of it as a hydration booster rather than a miracle.

🌙Retinal & RetinolSmoother-looking texturePM only+
Also known as: Vitamin A, retinaldehyde
What it is
Forms of vitamin A. Retinol is the classic; retinal (retinaldehyde) is one step closer to the form skin actually uses, so it works faster.
What it does
Smooths the look of texture and fine lines, helps skin look firmer and more even, and helps keep pores clear.
Why it works
Vitamin A speeds up skin's natural renewal, so fresh cells reach the surface faster. Over weeks this makes skin look smoother and more even. Because it's powerful, it's also the ingredient that's most likely to cause dryness or flaking at first.
Best for
Fine linesUneven textureBlemish-prone (not too sensitive)
Pairs well with
Ceramides, centella, panthenol, hyaluronic acid. Sunscreen every morning.
Good to know

What it is
A powerful antioxidant that comes in different forms: pure ascorbic acid (strongest) and gentler derivatives.
What it does
Helps skin look brighter and more radiant and helps fade the look of dark spots over time.
Why it works
As an antioxidant, vitamin C helps protect skin from daily stress like pollution and UV, and it slows down the extra pigment that makes spots look darker. That's why it works best in the morning, under sunscreen.
Best for
Dull-lookingDark spotsUneven tone
Pairs well with
Sunscreen (best duo!), vitamin E, ferulic acid, hyaluronic acid.
Good to know
Strong forms can tingle. Keep the bottle closed and away from light. Avoid using with strong exfoliating acids at the same time if your skin is sensitive.

A filtered gel made by snails, collected in a way that doesn't harm them. Made famous by COSRX.
What it does
Hydrates deeply, leaves a dewy, healthy-looking finish and helps skin look smoother.
Why it works
Snail mucin naturally contains hyaluronic acid, glycoproteins and small amounts of glycolic acid. Together they hold moisture in the skin and soften it, which is why it suits dry, dull or tired skin so well.
Best for
DryDull-lookingDehydrated

What it does
Helps skin look clearer, calms the look of redness and evens out tone and post-breakout marks.
Why it works
Azelaic acid helps keep pores clear and slows the extra pigment behind dark marks. It's gentler than many acids, which is why it's popular for skin that is both blemish-prone and sensitive or red.
Best for
Blemish-proneRedness-proneUneven tone
Pairs well with
Niacinamide, centella, hyaluronic acid.
Good to know

🧱CeramidesSupports the moisture barrierAM & PM+
Also known as: Skin-identical lipids
What it is
Fats (lipids) that are naturally part of your skin's outer layer. They make up about half of the "glue" between skin cells.
What it does
Helps skin hold on to moisture, feel less dry and tight, and handle cold weather and strong actives better.
Why it works
Think of skin as a brick wall: cells are the bricks and ceramides are part of the mortar. When there aren't enough, water escapes and skin gets dry and sensitive. Ceramide creams help top up that mortar.

🫧Exfoliating Acids (AHA, BHA, PHA)Smooth texture, clear poresPM (best)+
Also known as: Glycolic, lactic, salicylic acid, gluconolactone
What it is
Acids that gently loosen dead skin cells. AHAs (glycolic, lactic) work on the surface, BHA (salicylic acid) is oil-soluble and works inside pores, and PHAs are the gentlest.
What it does
Smooth rough texture, help clear blackheads and clogged pores, and brighten dull skin.
Why it works
Because BHA dissolves in oil, it can get into pores, which is why it's the go-to for blackheads and oily skin. AHAs are better for dullness and rough texture on the surface.
Best for
